BATUR

Nestled in the eastern part of Bali you find Batur or Mount Batur, an active volcano and a popular tourist destination known for sunrise hikes and panoramic views. The most recent eruption of Mount Batur occurred in 2000.

Mount Batur is a stratovolcano, meaning it's tall and cone-shaped. It is part of a larger caldera that was formed by ancient, massive eruptions. The area features black lava fields, steam vents, and the scenic Lake Batur. It is located in the Kintamani district in the highlands of Bali, about 90 minutes from Ubud.

A major draw is hiking to the summit of Mount Batur for sunrise views, which is considered a relatively beginner-friendly trek. It is a popular tourist attraction due to its natural beauty and challenging but accessible hike.

Batur is of cultural and spiritual significance because the area is considered sacred by the Balinese and is an important part of their culture. The other significance of Mount Batur is the fertile volcanic soil it provides that supports a lot of local agriculture.
